Stay-at-Home Moms Unite: Diminishing Stigmas Together

stayathomemomNow, if you are a stay-at-home mom, you probably work harder than most people realize. Some stay-at-home parents work more than their fully employed counterparts. Sadly, due to misinformation and laziness, some think people who stay at home and watch children are lazy. However, this could not be further from the truth and here are four reasons why stay-at-home moms should not suffer any backlash for their decision.

Up at weird hours: First and foremost, when you work in the corporate world, you will come home at five and go back to work at nine. On the other hand, if you have kids, no matter their age, you will have to wake up at weird hours to take care of them. Think about it, every year, kids will get sick and end up needing more attention. Other times, especially when dealing with young children, a parent will have to drop what they are doing and help their kid. Either way, this is in stark contrast to highly paid people who work at law firms and other organizations. Simply put, if you want to have kids and stay at home, you will lose a lot of your own free time.

Other things: Without a doubt, a stay-at-home mom will have to deal with other things in the house. While some chauvinists think a woman drinks coffee and watches television with her friends, this is far from the reality. No, a stay-at-home mom must often clean the house, do the gardening and even make dinner. This is a raw deal when compared with a corporate worker who can come home and relax when he or she pleases. Remember, while it may seem easy from the outside, a stay-at-home mom will have a huge amount of chores to worry about every day.

A thousand hats: Not only does a stay-at-home parent have their primary duties, but a parent will also have dozens of other tasks. Not only will a stay-at-home mom have to help with homework, do the dishes and play nurse, but she will have to deal with other parents, help her kids stay happy and make sure her spouse is taken care of. Sadly, many scoff at this and think a stay-at-home has it easy. Without a doubt, this is not the case and a new parent will understand this quickly when they have to play a ton of different roles with their kids.

Make money too: There is more pressure now than there was in the past. For this reason, many stay-at-home moms opt to work from home or out of the house for a couple of hours a day. Think about it, now, most parents will either have a side business or part-time work to make some extra money. Unfortunately, some people will laugh and think a shift waiting tables or working another job is easy. Remember, in the past, a stay-at-home mom did not have to work out of the house, this is now rare and many opt to work a few hours a week to help with monthly bills.

If you are a stay-at-home mom, you should not have any fear that people will misjudge you. In fact, many do not understand how hard it is to deal with children and a working spouse. Ideally, faced with this decision, a smart person should opt to go to work and let their spouse take care of the kids.
